The Interview

What inspired you to participate in the Mrs. SA competition?

“My inspiration to join the Mrs. SA competition stems from a deep desire to serve as a beacon of hope for those grappling with the challenges of body shaming. Participating in this competition is not just about personal growth; it's about using this platform to empower others to embrace their unique beauty and to foster self-acceptance. It’s also a journey of self-discovery and self-affirmation for me, pushing me to grow stronger and more confident in who I am.”

How has your journey in the competition impacted your personal and professional life?

“The first four weeks post-casting were overwhelming. Adjusting to the new demands alongside my family, friends, and other commitments was challenging. Mrs. SA has taught me the importance of also prioritising myself.”

What challenges have you faced during the competition, and how did you overcome them?

“Often I'm asked, 'How did you do it? How is it possible that you're a Mrs SA Semi-Finalist?' as eyes scan my body. I've come to expect this, and I always respond with a smile, 'Mrs SA celebrates diversity—they don't discriminate based on race, weight, or modelling experience.’”

Can you share your daily wellness routine?

“Each day starts with prayer, followed by either a gym session or a 5km walk. I incorporate stretches and read daily motivations to start my day right. Taking my blood pressure medication and vitamins each morning is also a crucial part of my routine.”

How do you balance your mental and physical health, especially in preparation for a competition?

“I avoid negative thoughts and conversations, turning to journaling and daily Bible readings to refresh my mind and strengthen my spirit.”

What are your go-to beauty and skincare routines?

“My routine is simple yet effective: wash, scrub, tone, and moisturise.”

How do you define beauty, and how does it reflect in your lifestyle?

“Beauty is the affirmation I give myself in the mirror each morning. It's about inner confidence, not external pressures.”

What beauty trends are you currently loving, and which ones would you like to see make a comeback?

“I'm all for the sophistication of high-waisted pants—they're timeless.”

How would you describe your personal style, and how has it evolved over time?

“My style has evolved significantly; I adore traditional clothes and am fascinated by different fabrics. Although I never wore shorts before, I've grown to love them.”

Can you share a memorable fashion moment from your participation in Mrs. SA?

“During a sponsor content creation day in Rosebank and Sandton, I wore a royal blue dress with a tail that perfectly suits my style. Feeling like I was walking on air, I received numerous compliments on the photos I posted.”

What fashion advice would you give to someone looking to find their own style?

“Wear what you feel comfortable to wear, don’t be pressured by what people say you should look like.”

As a role model, what message do you want to convey to women and young girls?

“Remember, there is only one you. Never strive to be a photocopy of someone else. Embrace your uniqueness, and don’t measure yourself against others.”

How do you use your platform to advocate for causes you're passionate about?

“Through radio and newspaper interviews, and personal conversations complemented by social media posts, I advocate for the causes close to my heart.”

Can you share an instance where you felt you made a significant impact through your advocacy work?

“After a radio interview, I received heartfelt messages, including one that said, 'Nthabiseng, thank you for doing what you are doing, thank you for bringing hope to my life. I was about to give up.”

What are your goals and aspirations beyond the Mrs. SA competition?

"I aspire to continue being a beacon of hope for those who feel lost and to open a counselling practice as a registered counsellor."

How do you plan to continue making a difference in your community or field of work?

"I aim to increase awareness of the challenges associated with weight loss. As an author, I use my platform to share my story and inspire others."

Is there a project or initiative you're currently working on that you'd like to share more about?

“My friends and I collect baby things for a Shelter in Kempton Park. Also, I am a founder of an organisation called Chosen Wives since 2014, it is a group of Christian married women who are passionate about “doing marriage and family life together". We encourage each other, share wisdom and advice. We have a Whatsapp group, we also meet face to face to catch up, go camping, pampering, we host high tea and family day yearly. This year we are having a special 10yrs anniversary celebration, and we will also be crowning Mrs Chosen Wives 2024.”

What's a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
